The Infection Preventionist (IP) supports the philosophy, objectives and the mission and vision of Saint Barnabas Medical Center and the Department of Infection Prevention and Control . Practices in accordance with the Department of Health regulations, Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies. Collects, analyzes and presents data relevant to infection control/infectious disease. The IP provides education based upon identified needs and age of associates and in accordance with approved infection control policies and procedures. The IP develops policies and procedures regarding infection control. The IP participates at the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and other committees as assigned. The IP accepts on call schedule as determined by the Director; investigates clusters; outbreaks and assists in complying with regulatory agencies. The IP Participates in performance improvement evaluation activities.


  • Completion of Clinical experience in NLN accredited school/Medical Technology/Microbiology or other Health Science Schooling Degree.


  • Current New Jersey Registered Nurse License if applicable.
  • Current Board Certification in Infection Prevention and Control or Infection Control
  • Eligible to sit for exam after 2 years’ experience.
  • CBIC within 5 years required.
  • Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.
